Delicious vegan Lebanese dish. It’s ridiculously easy and literally takes 30 min to make. Some people call it mujaddara msafeye.
I add the cabbage salad sauce (lemon juice and olive oil) all over the mujjadara, and if i’m feeling good about myself i eat it with bread.
Lebanese Mujaddara
Delicious vegan Lebanese dish (best served with some lemon juice, olive oil and bread)
Equipment
- Hand Blender
Ingredients
- 2 cups Broad Green Lentils (washed)
- 2 large Onions cut in half
- 6 cups Water
- 1/3 cup Egyptian rice (washed) Italian rice works as well
- 1/2 cup Olive oil
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1.5 tsp Cumin
Instructions
- From the 1/2 cup of olive oil take 2tbsp and heat them in a large pot
- Add the onions and fry around until they get some color (2 mins)
- Add the lentils, and fry around for another 2-3 mins. Cover with water and close the pot lid. Cook for 20-25 mins until the lentils are tender and cooked thru
- Add the rice, cumin, olive oil, and salt
- Turn the heat on low and cook for an additional 10 mins, uncovered. Make sure to stir every few minutes so it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan
- Once rice cooks thru and the mujaddara gets thick turn the heat off and using a hand blender, blend all until smooth
- Serve in plates. Allow to cool
- Serve with a cabbage salad

Totally delicious, Its the real recipe from back home 🙂

Hello! I am obsessed with you on IG!
I’m trying to make this recipe but I need more info please.
For number 3, what temperature should we cook the lentils.
And then at number 6, it says to turn off heat, and then again at number 7 but the recipe doesn’t explain when to turn the heat back on after number 6.
Lentils are on the stove, I hope I can figure it out!
Thank you!!
Hi! Thank you for pointing that out, you’re absolutely right!
For number 3 it should be medium high heat
and for number 6, as soon as rice cooks, turn off heat and blend. the steps got jumbled but I’ll fix them now 🙂
